ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is deeply rooted in using the art of dance as a medium to bring forward and translate our deepest expressions and most instinctive relations from all walks of life into universally communicative commodities. For me, creation of movement is not only refracted light of those who have come before and helped shape me into the dance artist I am today, but is manifested through improvisational means, musical exploration, interplay with/of momentum and energy, as well as an intentionally conscious and fluid expression of both the self, and the subconscious impulse. I see choreography as a methodology and opportunity to define, grow, and express one’s inner self and individual experiences whilst building interpersonal relationships. In this, a universal language becomes transmittable through these artistic means in such a way that any given person can observe a part of themselves in them, as well. Even if, when, where, and in a lack of understanding, there is a coexisting commonplace of the apprehensive unknown that can be understood. At length, the cumulative corresponding points and development that surface amongst the participants of these processes are the birthplace of ingenuity and inspiration that I largely value over the epilogue, result, or finale.
Ultimately, I seek to inspire others to embrace themselves authentically through their artistry, instill the joy and healing of what movement has to offer, and largely celebrate the essence of life and humanity in its purest form through sharing the art of dance.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
As a dance artist and educator, I am thoroughly invested in sharing the art of dance as a tool to build community, positivity, and understanding at an individual level to ultimately create a collectively uplifting environment. I am greatly driven with the mindset that anybody can dance, and I wholly believe that when one is equipped with the right tools, anything becomes possible.
